ICY DOCK's EZConvert MB705M2P-B converts an M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD into the exact dimensions and port locations as a standard 2.5-inch U.2 (SFF-8639) NVMe SSD without using any tools or screws for drive installation. The MB705M2P-B can be installed anywhere that accepts a bare 2.5-inch U.2 NVMe drive, such as a U.2 backplane, 2.5" mounting bracket, or ICY DOCK U.2 NVMe removable enclosures/mobile racks. The sturdy aluminum heat sink housing protects the delicate M.2 circuit board from bumps and drops, and work perfectly with the included thermal pad for optimal heat dissipation to keep your drive running cool, even under heavy load.
Removable Design
Because M.2 SSDs are not designed to be frequently swap, their connectors are very delicate, typically rated for only 250 insertion/removal cycles. The EZConvert MB705M2P-B has a durable U.2 connector rated for 10,000 insertion/removal cycles, allows you to add, remove, and replace drives without putting any wear on the internal connector.

Note: the host system has to support NVMe hot-plug function in order for the OS to detect the swapped drive while the system is powered on. If you are having trouble detecting your SSD, please refer to FAQ.

Perfect Compatibility
EZConvert MB705M2P-B accepts any 30mm-80mm M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD (2230 / 2242 / 2260 / 2280) and gives it the exact same dimensions, port locations, and screw-hole locations as a standard 9.5mm U.2 NVMe SSD.
The 1-piece heat sink lid snaps on and off without screws or tools, revealing the drive bay for easy installation, removal, and replacement in only seconds.
The adjustable M.2 locker slides to accommodate all standard M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD drive lengths, including 2230 (30mm), 2242 (42mm), 2260 (60mm), and 2280 (80mm). The locker clips into the SSD screw hole to secure the drive without screws, saving you the hassle of dealing with tiny easy-to-lose screws while protecting your drive from vibration and movement damage.
Because the MB705M2P-B uses the standardized 2.5-inch U.2 form-factor, it can be installed into any U.2 backplane, 2.5-inch mounting bracket, or ICY DOCK U.2 NVMe removable enclosures/mobile racks such as MB699VP-B for multi-drives or MB601VK-B / MB601VK-1B for a single drive.
Packed with Features
The dual-function full-metal lid protects delicate M.2 SSDs from bumps and drops. The aluminum lid also acts as a heat sink to keep NVMe drives at safe temperatures, even under heavy load.

The included thermal paste sticker can be attached on to the underside of the full-metal lid for increased heat dissipation.

For additional cooling performance, the bottom air vent can be cut out to make room for an M.2 heat sink, or for additional air flow.
The MB705M2P-B supports the full NVMe bandwidth specification of up to 64Gbps, letting you take full advantage of the fastest M.2 NVMe SSDs available.

"If the price of a U.2 NVMe just isn’t your cup of tea, and you would like to rather use an M.2 NVMe drive with the U.2 input/interface, this can easily be accomplished. By doing this, you can make use of the drive without taking up any of the other PCIe lanes, allowing you to maximize the use of your PCIe slots for things like graphic cards and other adapters (most boards, you have the option of the slot or an embedded M.2 slot when using the M.2 slots on the board). Or, you simply have the option of one extra M.2 NVMe drive if you have already maxed out your available M.2 slots...."

"Icy Dock has always impressed me with how they manage to come up with creative and easy to use tool-less enclosures and products and this time around isn't any different. The MB705M2P-B is really easy to install your M.2 drive into it and because it is the same form factor as a 2.5-inch drive it also means it will fit in almost any build, including servers. The built-in aluminum heatsink also did a good job pulling heat away from the drives in my testing. Which isn't always needed, but is a nice side benefit. Especially with it being focused on higher-end NVMe drives that run warmer..."

Q: I'm using Intel/Broadcom Tri-Mode HBA and RAID cards with the MB705M2P-B, but the drives do not show up in my system.
A: The issue is caused by RAID card manufacturers using a different pin-out for Tri-Mode cards than is typically used for U.2 connections. When using the Tri-Mode cards with M.2 NVMe drives, a U.2 enabler cable must be used for Tri-Mode card to detect the M.2 drive, which reverts the pin-out to standard U.2 specifications. Q: My NVMe drive did not detect after inserting it back into the device while powered on?

A: For systems that support hot-plug function, while your system is powered on, each drive insertion and removal cycle will require a manual refresh from the operating system in order for the system to recognize the drive.


If you are unable to detect the drive after performing the manual refresh, your system might not support hot-plug functions. We suggest you check with the motherboard/add-on card manufacturer to see if it supports the NVMe hot-plug function.


Windows 10 / Windows 8 – In the search box on the taskbar, type Device Manager, then select from the menu, right-click on the disk drive and then select scan for hardware changes.


Windows 7 – Right-click on computer icon on desktop and select properties, click Device Manager, right-click on the disk drive and then select scan for hardware changes.
