REMOVABLE U.2 / M.2 SSD ENCLOSURES
The ToughArmor MB873MP-B is a Ruggedized Eight Bay Removable M.2 NVMe SSD Enclosure that fits a single 5.25" optical drive bay of the computer system and supporting PCIe 4.0 64Gb/s data transfer rates through 8 x OCuLink (SFF-8612) connectors. It is made out of heavy-duty full-metal construction and uses removable M.2 SSD trays that support tool-less drive installation/removal for effortless drive maintenance. In addition, the MB873MP-B is equipped with dual 40x20mm cooling fans in the rear to remove the heat generated by the high-speed PCIe 4.0 SSD for best cooling performance.

Superior PCIe 4.0 Performance

The MB873MP-B unlocks the full potential of the PCIe 4.0 M.2 NVMe SSDs by using 8x OCulink (SFF-8612) connection dedicated for each drive to allow up to 64Gbps transfer speeds per drive bay, which is two times faster than PCIe 3.0 and 10 times faster than SATA standards.

 
 
State of the Art Tool-Less M.2 Drive Tray

Typically, M.2 SSDs are installed on the motherboard or adapter card that is often secured by tiny screws and requires opening the computer case to access the drives. With the MB873MP-B's removable drive design, your M.2 NVMe SSDs are brought to the 5.25" optical bay of the computer system and lets you change the drives without opening up the case or using a tool, making drive maintenance an efficient, straightforward process.

 

The ToughArmor MB873MP-B is equipped with a patent-pending M.2 adjustable locker for tool-less drive installation/removal. Simply insert the M.2 NVMe SSD (2230, 2242, 2260, 2280, and 22110), move the adjustable M.2 locker until it firmly secures the SSD and closes the lid. The whole process takes less than 10 seconds to complete, saving your valuable time and resources.

 
 
 
High-performance Cooling System
Powering up the eight M.2 NVMe SSD at once can accumulate heat. Therefore, we have included dual 40x20mm cooling fans, providing a massive amount of airflow throughout the entire enclosure to keep the M.2 NVMe solid-state drive at optimal operating temperatures, even under heavy load.
 
The specialized slimline drive tray is made with thick aluminum and acts as a heatsink to dissipate heat generated by M.2 NVMe SSDs.
 
The included thermal pad fill the gaps between the contact surfaces and transfers heat away from the M.2 SSD to the heatsink tray, allowing airflow to dissipate the heat away efficiently.

EMI Grounding Technology

Grounding your M.2 NVMe SSD is essential as swapping drives without proper grounding may lead to hardware damages due to static shocks. With our innovative EMI Grounding Technology, once the M.2 locker clips into the SSD screw hole, the SSD will be in a grounded state throughout the enclosure's tray and housing. After the enclosure is installed in the system with four screws on its' side, it will ground itself throughout the computer system.

 
 
Packed with Features

The LED status light in each of the trays gives you the drive status information with a glance. With Active Power Technology, the enclosure turns on when the drive is inserted and automatically shuts off when all drives are removed.

 

Never forget which drives belong in which bays. With drive ID plugs, you'll always know which drive tray belongs in your RAID array or which drives contains specific files. Rearrange them to suit your configurations better, or remove them for a simplified look.

 

The ToughArmor MB873MP-B supports 15-pin SATA power cables with locking latches. As a result, you'll never need to worry about cables unintentionally disconnecting from your enclosure. Once the cables are connected, they will lock and stay in place securely.

Q: My NVMe drive did not detect after inserting it back into the device while powered on?

A: For systems that support hot-plug function, while your system is powered on, each drive insertion and removal cycle will require a manual refresh from the operating system in order for the system to recognize the drive.

 

If you are unable to detect the drive after performing the manual refresh, your system might not support hot-plug functions. We suggest you check with the motherboard/add-on card manufacturer to see if it supports the NVMe hot-plug function.

 

Windows 10 / Windows 8 – In the search box on the taskbar, type Device Manager, then select from the menu, right-click on the disk drive and then select scan for hardware changes.

 

Windows 7 – Right-click on computer icon on desktop and select properties, click Device Manager, right-click on the disk drive and then select scan for hardware changes.

Q: I'm having the difficulties closing the lid of the drive tray and unable to insert the drive tray all the way to the drive enclosure after placing the M.2 SSD onto the drive tray.

A: Make sure to lock the M.2 SSD with the adjustable M.2 locker. The tray lid will not close properly if the M.2 locker is not fully secured. If you are having difficulty secure the M.2 locker or close the cover, the M.2 SSD you are using may not follow the standard M.2 SSD thickness, which is less than 1.5mm height for each side with a total height that does not exceed 3.8mm. Using the M.2 SSD with non-standard thickness will cause improper tension on the M.2 locker and tray lid and make the M.2 connector misaligned. If you are having issues inserting the drive tray to the enclosure, please stop the operation immediately and check the drive thickness to ensure it follows the standard M.2 SSD thickness - less than 1.5mm height for each side and less than 3.8mm for total height.

Note: Some M.2 SSD uses a metal heat dissipation sticker that causes each side's thickness more than the 1.5mm. Remove the sticker will solve the problem, but do it at your own risk (might void the warranty of SSD)
