General

Q   Will my particular SSD work with this device such as Samsung 830, 840, and Intel 520?

o    Assuming the SSD you have chosen is a standard 2.5” SATA drive, yes, your SSD will work in these converters. The converters simply pass the SATA power and data connections through to the motherboard/controller card, allowing you to be worry free about drivers, firmware, or compatibility issues. However, please be aware that some SSD models mentioned above that use non-standard height, such as 7mm, or a thinner than normal thickness. In this situation, we suggest to confirm the model is compatible with your seller or directly with us.

Q   Can this work in my particular computer case?

o    Yes, these converters use the exact form factor of a 3.5” SATA drive, meaning all connections, dimensions, and mounting holes are the exact same. If you can mount your 3.5” drive in your case, you can mount one of these converters.

Q   Will this work with my 2.5” SAS or 10K WD VelociRaptor drive?

o    No. Since SAS and WD VelociRaptor drives are 15mm and 12.5mm in height, they will not fit into the converter which is designed for standard 9.5mm drives. We would suggest to explore our EZConvert Pro MB982 series for compatibility.

Q    I am experiencing disconnection issues or the hard drive cannot be detected by my system.

o     Please make sure that all cable connections and drive connection to the converter are fully secured. Also, please confirm the HDD or SSD is working properly and that you have switched to different SATA ports. If that does not help, please contact us for more information.

MB882SP-1S-1B & MB882SP-1S-2B

Q   What is the maximum transfer rate for SATA interface?

o    The SATA transfer rate will depend on the drive speed as well as which interface the controller card or motherboard uses.

o    The maximum transfer rate when using SATA 1.5Gbps (SATA I) is approximately 150 MB/sec.

o    The maximum transfer rate when using SATA 3Gbps (SATA II) is approximately 300 MB/sec.

o    The maximum transfer rate when using SATA 6Gbps (SATA III) is approximately 600MB/sec.

Q   Is this compatible with the new SATA 6Gbps (SATA III)?

o    Yes, because this device does not use any chipsets, the SATA connection from the drive is directly passed through to the motherboard/controller card. And since SATA 6Gbps saw no change to the physical connectors, it is compatible with SATA 3Gbps products where no chipsets are involved. Both drive and motherboard/controller card must support SATA 6Gbps.

Q   What is the difference between the MB882SP-1S-1B and the MB882SP-1S-2B?

o    The “-1B” version is the first of its kind in this product line. The top door hinges open, and the drive is connected and disconnected to the SATA interface via a metal tray that slides into and out of the connection as the door opens and closes.

o    The “-2B” version was our second addition to this product line and is what we call our “simple version”. This device uses a top door that comes all the way off, and uses a simpler mechanism to connect the drive to the SATA connection. As the door is slid into place, it pushes a flap inside the box which in turn pushes the drive into the SATA connection.

MB882HX-1SB

Q   What is the maximum bandwidth output?

o   The MB882HX-1SB will only be able to perform up to SATA II specifications. This is in the limitation of the chipset.

Q   I am unable to create a hybrid partition for the hybrid expander, how can I resolve this?

o   Verify that all steps are followed carefully according to the manual. If possible, test the expander on a different system or switch to a different SATA port on your motherboard.

o   If you are still experiencing issue, please contact us for more assistance.

Q   What types of hard drives & SSD's are ideal for the hybrid expander?

o   The expander is targeted for use on older systems or to provide an upgrade to an older SSD already in use. By using the hybrid technology on the expander, one will be able to extend the life of the SSD by doubling it's size
