In order to provide a pure 2.5” to 3.5” SAS conversion, Icy Dock is proud to introduce the new EZConvert Pro MB982IP-1S-1 2.5” SAS/SATA to 3.5” SAS Hard Drive / SSD Converter. The MB982IP-1S-1 is an addition to the already popular MB982 enterprise series, with an emphasis on industrial level SAS storage applications. This product is designed using the dimensions, connection locations, and mounting hole positions of a standard 3.5” SAS or SSD drive. The converter is designed specifically to be used for 2.5” SAS/SATA drives that are required in 3.5” SAS internal hard drive bays of tower and rackmount chassis, as well as with SAS backplanes or hot swap modules.
The MB982IP-1S-1 utilizes a full metal design, thus creating the best environment to cool any 10K, 15K RPM SAS mechanical or enterprise SAS solid state drive, meanwhile, the rock solid construction is ideal for industrial, enterprise, and military related applications. Improving upon the MB982IP-1S, the MB982IP-1S-1 uses a completely standardized SAS connection in order to be fully compatible with various SAS backplanes. To accommodate various hard drive heights, we have included our Smart-Fit Technology, allowing security of the drive whether it is a thinner 7mm or a thicker 15mm.
The MB982IP-1S-1 also includes most of the features that you already expect from an Icy Dock product: an effortless installation process without any tools or screws, plenty of ventilation slots to keep any drive used running cool and efficient, and a unique and stylish design. The top, front and rear allow exceptional airflow, and a special vent on the bottom gives the user visual confirmation that the drive has made a secure connection.
Note: For potential enterprise applications with SATA controllers and backplanes, please see the MB982SP-1S.

Q: I'm connecting my Oculink NVMe PCIe HBA/RAID card to the MB601M2K-1B via miniSAS HD (SFF-8643) interface, but the M.2 drives did not show up in my system.
A: The MB601M2K-1B are not compatible with the Oculink PCIe HBA/RAID cards due to different connector pin assignments used on the device. Please check the compatibility list in the FAQ section for HBA/RAID cards that are compatible with MB601M2K-1B.
We plan to release the Oculink compatible NVMe enclosures in the second quarter of 2020, welcome to sign up ICY DOCK Newsletter to receive product updates.
Q: Can you recommend an add-on card that works with MB601M2K-1B?
A: The following add-on cards are compatible with MB601M2K-1B. We highly recommend using the official cable for the best compatibility.
We are currently certifying our NVMe enclosure with the major add-on card manufacturers. We will be adding compatible add-on cards to the list.
You can click here to report a compatible add-on card/cable. If you want to check the compatibility of add-on card(s) that are not on the list, please click here.
Q: I'm using Intel/Broadcom Tri-Mode HBA and RAID cards with the MB601M2K-1B, but the drives do not show up in my system.
A: The issue is caused by RAID card manufacturers using a different pin-out for Tri-Mode cards than is typically used for U.2 connections. When using the Tri-Mode cards with M.2 NVMe drives, a U.2 enabler cable must be used for Tri-Mode card to detect the M.2 drive, which reverts the pin-out to standard U.2 specifications. For more information, please Click here.
Q: My NVMe drive did not detect after inserting it back into the device while powered on?
A: For systems that support hot-plug function, while your system is powered on, each drive insertion and removal cycle will require a manual refresh from the operating system in order for the system to recognize the drive. If you are still unable to detect the drive after performing the manual refresh, please contact us at tech@icydock.com for more assistance.
Windows 10 / Windows 8 – In the search box on the taskbar, type Device Manager, then select from the menu, right-click on the disk drive and then select scan for hardware changes.
Windows 7 – Right-click on computer icon on desktop and select properties, click Device Manager, right-click on the disk drive and then select scan for hardware changes.
If you are still unable to detect the drive after performing the manual refresh, your system might not support hot-plug functions. We suggest you check with the motherboard/add-on card manufacturer to see if it supports the NVMe hot-plug function.
Q: Is the ICY DOCK NVMe enclosure supporting the PCIe 4.0 standard?
A: Yes, all ICY DOCK NVMe enclosures support the PCIe 4.0 standard. However, the bandwidth will be limited to PCIe 3.0 when connecting a PCIe 3.0 device to a PCIe 4.0 host. The PCIe 4.0 enclosures are under development. If you wish to receive product updates, please sign up for the ICY DOCK Newsletter.
Q: I'm having the difficulties closing the lid of the drive tray and unable to insert the drive tray all the way to the drive enclosure after placing the M.2 SSD onto the drive tray.
A: Make sure to lock the M.2 SSD with the adjustable M.2 locker. The tray lid will not close properly if the M.2 locker is not fully secured. If you are having difficulty secure the M.2 locker or close the cover, the M.2 SSD you are using may not follow the standard M.2 SSD thickness, which is less than 1.5mm height for each side with a total height that does not exceed 3.8mm. Using the M.2 SSD with non-standard thickness will cause improper tension on the M.2 locker and tray lid and make the M.2 connector misaligned. If you are having issues inserting the drive tray to the enclosure, please stop the operation immediately and check the drive thickness to ensure it follows the standard M.2 SSD thickness - less than 1.5mm height for each side and less than 3.8mm for total height.
Note: Some M.2 SSD uses a metal heat dissipation sticker that causes each side's thickness more than the 1.5mm. Remove the sticker will solve the problem, but do it at your own risk (might void the warranty of SSD)
ICY DOCK enclosure is design to be compatible with M.2 SSD that has standard thickness. We highly recommend checking the drive thickness before purchase, and please refer to the incompatible M.2 SSD list below for further information:
